Address the underlying fears and consider the coaching method rather than the advising method

Have you ever looked after someone who needs frequent reassurances though multiple repeated tests.  In Medicine, it can be a hard balance isn’t it?  Too little can be a problem. Too much can be a problem too.

It is important to recognize that patients are often driven by fear, so it is crucial to delve into the underlying fears and address them directly, rather than simply focusing on their observable behavior. These fears may arise from a variety of sources, such as biological, psychological, or social concerns.

To better engage patients and reduce resistance, healthcare providers may want to consider using a coaching method, rather than an advising method.

By adopting a coaching approach, patients can feel more empowered and involved in their own healthcare decisions, which can lead to improved outcomes.
