If one likes to play in the “business of counseling”, being a counsellor is more like a farmer than a mechanic. More like a mirror than a sponge. More like a locksmith than a renovator. More like water than steel. More like a coach rather than a rescuer.
Plant the seed. Water it. Nurture it. Wait patiently for the harvest. There will be periods of droughts and storms. Be patient. Have faith. Reflect rather than absorb the feelings of others. Unlock a person’s knowing of who they are rather than rebuilding a person into something that they are not. Be flexible. Be adaptable. Encourage and facilitate change for the better.
It will take time. Be patient.
