Understanding cognitive processes to improve mental health
When observing groups, we can see the following patterns....
1. Some of us are great at processing and working with other people’s feelings to maintain social harmony.
2. Some of us are great at processing and working with external rules and principles to make things workable.
3. Some of us are great at processing and working with our own internal rules and principles to maintain integrity and accuracy in everything we do.
4. Some of us are great with processing and working with our own feelings/values to stay authentic, true to who we are, and to maintain inner harmony.
I think society is having increasing mental health burden because there has been way too much focus on the top 3, and not enough of No.4.
Most of counseling, especially with Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), is to fill this gap.
