Helping our patients to “play with feelings” in a safe and healthy way

Feelings can be a very useful source of information as long as one can learn to create space for it, and “play with it” in a safe and helpful way.

For some, feelings can be very “icky” to experience, and so they tend to avoid it, detach from it, or “lock it up”. This can be due to personality styles, past negative experiences or traumas.

Of course, if one doesn’t play with it, one cannot really master it.

So counseling is in some ways, helping folks to understand and “play with their feelings” in a safe and helpful way.
