We as Family Doctors can fill the gaps to improve the emotional literacy in our communities

I wonder what it will be like if we as a society, put the same amount of energy into teaching emotional literacy, as we do for numeracy, science, and literacy.

I think it will happen, because we will simply have to. We all know about the rate of mental health issues in our communities.  So it will happen, but I just don’t know when.

Having said that, I hope that it will be sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, I think Family Doctors, do have the ability to fill this gap.  Of course, it will not be easy.

In a period when other Health Professions are taking some of our burdens away, it may free us up to do this important job perhaps.  I acknowledge that others may not share my perspective, and that is okay and to be expected. This is simply another perspective. Not better, nor worse.  Just different.

Can we do it as a collective? I think we can.
