Helping folks with a history of emotional trauma

Do you look after or work with folks who have a history of emotional trauma?

As Family Doctors, I am sure you have.

For many of these folks we see, when disconnected, their feeling mind goes into fight/flight/freeze which tends to worsen the disconnection. When fight, they push others away. When avoid, they run away or withdraw. And when freeze, they can build a wall. Of course, these are for protection but often, it’s at a cost of reconnection.

Learning how to “hold space” for that with self compassion and then reengage, repair and reconnect is the real challenge for many of these folks.

I suspect that it’s important for many of us too.
