Helping our patients through “unconditional positive regard”

In counseling, one of the most important “mindsets” to cultivate, is the “unconditional positive regard” for our patients.

Unconditional positive regard enables us to set clear boundaries and be more assertive with our patients, without it significantly impacting the therapeutic relationships.

Unconditional positive regard helps our patients to feel safe and secure. This results in less fight, flight, and freeze responses.

Unconditional positive regard helps our patients to learn unconditional positive regard for self as well.

From this space, we are able to accept us for who we are, have self compassion, and move forward with a life that we want to create.
